Story Sharing ProjectDecember 31, 2014

The Gresham History Museum has received a grant from the city to record yours stories about growing up, living, working, and playing here in Gresham. We are holding informal interviews weekly here at the museum. If you would like to participate, please call the museum to set up a time to come in.

Mr. Carnegie's Grand TourSeptember 30, 2014

Clark County Historical Society has organized this tour of Oregon and Washington Carnegie libraries. Follow their link to find out more information about the tour, to print out your passport (to be stamped at each location you visit) and to get a map of the carious locations.

Join us for a walk through history as we wind our way through Gresham's Pioneer Cemeteries. We'll visit some of Gresham's historically significant graves and learn a little about the lives of those within them.

The tour group will meet at the Spring Water Corridor entrance into Main City Park. From there the group will walk a short distance to the Pioneer Cemeteries.

Join us for an evening lecture with author Jane Kirkpatrick. Internationally recognized for her lively presentations and well-researched stories that encourage and inspire, Jane is the author of over 25 books including historical novels. Many of her titles are based on the lives of real people or incidents set authentically in the American West. Her works have been finalists for the Oregon Book Award, WILLA Literary Award and Reader’s Choice awards; several being Book of the Month and Literary Guild selections.

Third Thursday Studio: Lecture with metal sculptor Mike SuriOctober 16, 2014

Join us for an evening lecture with metal sculptor Mike Suri! Working with steel, stainless steel, copper and bronze, his works utilize ancient and modern metalworking techniques to create soft and inviting shapes and forms. “I want people to see, feel and engage with artwork, to walk up and put their hands on it.” Influenced by Rodin sculpture gardens at Stanford University, Mike says, “Rodin’s work influenced me by his emotive heft and realness”.

Stories and storytelling can help weave individuals together into communities, foster understanding and healing. In an age of nano-seconds and information overload, stories can artfully engage the imaginations as well as the emotions and intellects of a listener. Storyteller Will Hornyak weaves together a wide web of stories and insights into entertaining, informative and highly engaging performance.

Join us for an evening lecture with percussionist Michael Charles Smith! Michael (Mike) Smith is a marimba soloist, percussionist, composer, singer-songwriter, and teacher. In addition to his own compositions for solo marimba, Michael covers everything from Bach to Radiohead and Ray Charles to George Gershwin. His latest marimba record, “Melodies for Wooden Children”, has received rave reviews.

Hear local author, Stevan Allred, read from his new book, A Simplified Map of the Real World. Death and high jinks, love and rage, the ordinary things going on in the imagined, rural town of Renata, Oregon, are not so simple. In these fifteen linked short stories, a man watches his neighbor's big-screen TV through binoculars. An errant son paints himself silver for his art despite his cattle rancher father's disapproval. Mysterious humming emanates from an enormous barn. Ghosts appear.

The Center for the Arts Foundation presents: Not a Poetry Fan? An Evening with A. Molotkov and John Sibley Williams.

Lovers and haters alike will be brought together by two local poets: A. Molotkov from Russia and John Sibley Williams, a former Bostonian. These poets paint mental pictures and stimulate thoughts in an impressionistic, sometimes obscure fashion, giving the listener the thrill of fitting the last piece into a jigsaw puzzle, or of solving a crossword.

The Center for the Arts Foundation presents: Unwrapping the Symphonic Gift with the Portland Columbia Symphony Orchestra.

Join 17-year-old composer Kenny Regan and explore how music flows from the composer's imagination to the printed page, and is then transformed by the musicians' performance. Kenny first started sketching his musical inspirations when only in the second grade! You will be the first to hear one of his compositions as it is performed by an ensemble from the Columbia Symphony Orchestra - a world premier!
